Message from Executive Director Bennett Judson
The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress is a forum of roofing contractors, manufacturers and suppliers who collectively select and fund studies, programs and projects that contribute to the ongoing improvement of the roofing industry. Simply put, the Alliance funds the projects that keep the roofing industry competitive, lucrative and visionary.Since 1996, The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress has approved more than $3.6 million to conduct research to help preserve a profitable and competitive industry in the areas of technology, environment, education and work force. The Alliance also is a generous organization that offers help to people in the roofing industry who find themselves in desperate need.
To support the Alliance's goal of accelerating giving strategies to a higher level, the Alliance has retained the cause alliances agency For Momentum LLC, Dunwoody, Ga. In addition to strategic counsel related to giving strategies, For Momentum conducted an in-depth assessment of the Alliance's projects and practices, including confidential one-on-one interviews with Alliance members. During the April Alliance meeting in Sarasota, Fla., For Mometum also facilitated an organizational assessment session where attendees had the opportunity to actively share ideas and provide input. This strategic session was productive and involved a significant amount of input from attending members. Based on the overwhelmingly positive evaluation results, we believe this is the start of a transformative time for the Alliance.
To this end, the group identified several important areas of development:
Mission clarity
As the 15th anniversary of the Alliance approaches, we have the opportunity to review our mission and vision and ensure it speaks clearly to our purpose. It also allows us to create a detailed plan for the short and long terms.
Member engagement strategies
Several concepts were examined at the meeting, and after much discussion, the following priorities surfaced:
- Position the Alliance as the leading source of industry data collection and dissemination.
- Conduct, sponsor or fund industry research in relation to new and emerging technologies.
- Address ongoing issues with workforce development and sustain efforts to improve industry image and legacy.
For Momentum created a comprehensive report called the POWER Assessment based on member interviews; an industry landscape snapshot of similar organizations; a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats (SWOT) analysis; and key findings and conclusions. Feedback from those discussions was incorporated into a final POWER Assessment report.
To capitalize on the energy from this working session, a key directive was to develop a series of next steps. As this process evolves, we will continue to keep you updated and would like your participation. Once you have become familiar with the insights and ideas incorporated, we hope you will help us frame future Alliance activities.
