2017-18 scholarship winners

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress congratulates five new recipients of its 2017-18 Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarships.

Nicholas Calvert, Wellsburg, W.V., son of Edward Calvert, senior engineer, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal, Inc., Wheeling, W.V.

Salvador Flores Garcia — Beacon Roofing Supply Scholarship, San Jose, Calif., son of Jose Flores Estrada, roofer, Alcal Arcade Contracting, Fremont, Calif.

Sophia McGuire, Indianapolis, Ind., daughter of Mark McGuire, project manager, AAA Roofing Co., Indianapolis, Ind.

Lillian McKenzie — OMG Roofing Products Inc., Scholarship, Columbia, S.C., daughter of Christopher McKenzie, salesman, Watts & Associates Roofing, Columbia, S.C.

Alyssa Merna — Firestone Scholarship, Brighton, Mich., sales coordinator, Bloom Roofing System Inc., Brighton, Mich.

In addition, the Alliance renewed six Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarships:

Christian Cole — Dan Cohen Scholarship, Dallas, Ga., attending Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, Ga.

Jaclyn Harris — Firestone Scholarship, Mooresville, Ind., attending Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind.

Jonah Manson, Solon, Iowa, attending Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa

Dannelly McKenzie, Columbia, S.C., attending Clemson University, Clemson, S.C.

Drury Poston, Thomson, Ga., attending Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Ga.

Ivy Rivas — Fred Good Scholarship, Tujunga, Calif., attending University of California Davis, Davis, Calif.

A total of $30,000 was awarded for scholarship renewals, $25,000 was awarded for five new scholarships for a total of $55,000 for the 2017-18 school year. To date a total of 122 students have received $735,000 in scholarship awards.

Details for the 2018-19 Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship program and the application guidelines will be available in September.
