Message from Finance and Financial Development Committee Chair Dan MurphyThe purpose of the Alliance Finance and Financial Development Committee is to oversee the Alliance investment and scholarship funds, monitor the Alliance budget and make recommendations for both to the Alliance Board of Trustees as appropriate. The secondary purpose is that of fundraising and soliciting new Alliance members.
As chairman of this committee, my goals for 2010-11 were to make sure strong financial disciplines were in place; have transparency in all reporting; have a high level of communication between the committee and membership; and have a plan in place to raise funds, increase membership and re-energize current members.
During the 2010-11 year, the Alliance's investment policy was reviewed and revisions were made to the endowment and scholarship investment policy guidelines to keep the Alliance in a suitable position to continue its scholarship programs. As a result of these revisions, I'm pleased to report the 2011-12 budget includes a $10,000 increase for scholarships, with future budgets including a minimum of $50,000. To continue the funding of scholarships and impressive projects like the Wall of Wind and the Helping Our Own Program, the Alliance needs to elevate its membership numbers.
